While You Wear: Extending the Life of Your Garments

At Lorna Jane, we are committed to designing for longevity, focused on creating products that last longer, reducing the need for frequent replacements and minimising waste. This involves selecting durable materials and employing techniques that enhance the longevity of our activewear.

Where We Currently Stand

At Lorna Jane, we are committed to designing for longevity, focused on creating products that last longer, reducing the need for frequent replacements and minimising waste. This involves selecting durable materials and employing techniques that enhance the longevity of our activewear.

Here at Lorna Jane, we thoroughly performance test our product through weekly fits, in-house product testing, and commercial standard testing. Our garments are tried on at every stage of their development, from first fit to bulk production, going through adjustments to ultimately produce the best fit. We also conduct in-house wear testing across various body sizes and exercises to ensure it exceeds expectations for its intended purpose.

To officially test the product, we use a commercial standard to assess stretch and recovery, pilling, colour fastness, moisture wicking, abrasion, and wash testing. All of this testing is conducted to ensure you have the best possible garment for your active living.

How Can You Be An Active Citizen?

Here are some detailed actions you can take to care for your garments and our planet:

1. Washing and Caring for Your Garments

Wash at 30 Degrees or Lower: Washing at lower temperatures saves energy and helps maintain the quality of your activewear. Use a gentle cycle and avoid hot washes to reduce the wear and tear on your garments.

Spot Clean When Possible: Instead of washing your entire garment, try spot cleaning to remove minor stains. This reduces water and energy usage and extends the life of your clothes.

Use Eco-Friendly Detergents: Choose detergents free from harsh chemicals. They are gentler on your skin and the environment.

Use Eco-Friendly Detergents: Fabric softeners can break down the elasticity of activewear fabrics. Opt for natural alternatives like white vinegar if needed.

2. Drying Your Garments

Air Dry: Whenever possible, air dry your activewear. This reduces energy consumption and helps preserve the fabric's integrity.

3. PROTECTING YOUR GARMENTS DURING WASH

As an activewear company, we understand that microplastics are released from our synthetic fabrics during washing and this can pollute our oceans and harm aquatic life. To combat microplastics, check out how Lorna Jane is taking responsibility here. However, we do need your help to further mitigate these environmental impacts though and we hope you will play your part and use a Guppyfriend Bag.

4. LIMIT FRICTION

Avoid Friction: Try to avoid friction on your Lorna Jane pieces. Activities such as sliding on the floor, crawling on your knees, sitting on rough surfaces, or rubbing stains can cause pilling.

5. REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE

Mend Your Garments: Learn basic sewing skills to repair small tears or loose seams. This extends the life of your activewear and reduces waste.

If Pilling Occurs: Use a good quality fabric shaver on the surface of the fabric to remove any pilling.

6. END-OF-USE
7. MAKING SUSTAINABLE CHOICES

Choose Sustainable Materials: When buying new activewear, you may like to opt for our recycled fabrics. This supports the circular economy and reduces demand for virgin resources.

Stay Informed: Keep up with sustainable fashion practices and be mindful of the environmental impact of your purchasing decisions.

8. Engage and Educate Others

Share Your Knowledge: Educate friends and family about sustainable garment care and the importance of being Active Citizens. Share tips and resources to help others make environmentally friendly choices.

By adopting these practices, you can ensure that you are not only caring for your Lorna Jane garments but also making a positive impact on the planet. Together, we can all be Active Citizens who contribute to a more sustainable future.
